East Benhar

Peter Murray Pit Headman

Peter MURRAY was born about 1848 in the Walston Parish of Lanarkshire.  He was a son of Alexander and Isabella MURRAY.  Peter worked as a Pit Headman in the coal mines around the Shotts area of Lanarkshire and the Whitburn area of Linlithgow.  On 04 December 1865, Peter married Janet Brown WHITEFORD.  Janet was born about 1845 in Nemphlar, Lanarkshire and was the daughter of James WHITEFORD and Margaret CALDER.  Janet died on 06 August 1905 in the East Benhar District of Fauldhouse and Peter MURRAY died on 02 April 1910 also in the East Benhar District.

Children of Peter MURRAY and Janet WHITEFORD:

i.  Alexander MURRAY, who was born on 13 April 1866 at Poniel in the Douglas Parish of Lanarkshire.

ii.  James Whiteford MURRAY, who was born on October 1867 at Poniel.

iii.  Peter MURRAY, who was born on 26 May 1872 at Gateside in the Whitburn Parish of Linlithgowshire.

iv.  Margaret Calder MURRAY, who was born on 07 April 1874 at Gateside.  Margaret was married to Thomas Black and died on 06 November 1953 in Edinburgh.

v.  Thomas MURRAY, who was born on 14 April 1876 on Muirhouse Row in the Shotts Parish of Lanarkshire.  Thomas died on 10 February 1886 in East Benhar.

vi.  Robert MURRAY, who was born on 03 June 1879 in the East Benhar District of the Whitburn Parish of Linlithgowshire.

vii.  Isabella MURRAY, who was born on 21 July 1886 in the Whitburn Parish.

viii.  John MURRAY, who was born about 24 May 1892 in the Whitburn Parish.
