John Murray Wagon Builder
John MURRAY was born on 17 April 1864 in the Shotts District of Lanarkshire. He was a son of Robert MURRAY and Agnes MCNEIL. John learned carpentry from his father and became a journeyman joiner before specializing in the building of wagons.
In Bathgate, Lanarkshire on 18 February 1884, John married Wilhelmina SMITH. Wilhelmina was born on 08 April 1864 and was a daughter of William SMITH and Margaret Miller DUNLAP. Tragically, Wilhelmina died on 30 January 1888 on Gideon Street in Bathgate.
Children of John MURRAY and Wilhelmina Smith:
i. Margaret Miller Dunlap MURRAY, who was born on 13 Oct 1884 at 9 Gideon Street in Bathgate. Margaret died on 26 January 1885 at 18 Campbell Street, Addiewell, West Calder.
ii. Wilhelmina Smith MURRAY, who was born on 01 Oct 1885 in Bathgate. Wilhelmina died at the Manse in Bathgate on 31 December 1907
John MURRAY then moved to Wishaw, Lanarkshire where he eventually married Janet Jack GIBB on 16 September 1890. Janet was born on 22 July 1861 in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire and was a daughter of John GIBB and Ann INGLIS. John and Janet raised a family while living on Caledonian Road in Wishaw.

iv. Janet MURRAY, who was born on 12 April 1891 at 144 Caledonian Road in Wishaw.
v. Agnes McNeil MURRAY, who was born on 08 November 1892 at 146 Caledonian Road.
vii. Andrew McNeil MURRAY, who was born on 11 February 1898 at 142 Caledonian Road.
Soon the family had moved to Netherton Terrace on Manse Road in Netherton where Janet Jack Gibb MURRAY died on 07 February 1918. Around this time, John employed Elizabeth MCLEAVER to help with the domestic duties of the household. John and Elizabeth were married on 17 July 1918 in Netherton. Elizabeth was born about 1892 in Shotts and was the daughter of Robert MCLEAVER and Hannah MCFARLANE.
