John Inglis Murray
John Inglis MURRAY was born in August of 1844 in the Shotts District of Lanarkshire. He was a son of Robert MURRAY and Ann INGLIS. John married Janet ORR on 29 October 1869 at Cairney Cottage in Allanton, Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire. Janet was born about 1848 and was a daughter of John ORR and Catherine CALDERHEAD. In the early 1870's John, like his father, worked as a Gamekeeper. John and Janet lived in Murdostoun in the Shotts District and began raising a family.
In the late 1870's, the family moved to Cumberland, England where John found work as a Mineral Borer. The family lived in Cleator for a short while, then for several years on Penzance Street in Egremont, and finally in the village of Kirksanton.
