James MURRAY was born about 13 July 1848 in Edinburgh.  James was a secretary for a fire insurance company.  On 27 February 1877, James married Clara Johanna Laura SCHUBERT at St. Bernard's Church in Edinburgh.  Clara was born about 1851 in Kanigsberg, Prussia and was the daughter of Louis SCHUBERT and Johanna WALTER.

James and Clara once lived at 7 Fettes Row in Edinburgh (see photo at left) and later lived at 2 Royal Terrace in Edinburgh (see photo at right).  Clara died on 30 September 1922 in Edinburgh and James died on 21 October 1924, also in Edinburgh.

i.  Alice Kate MURRAY, born 1878 in the St. Andrew's district of Edinburgh.

ii.  Clare Louise Schubert MURRAY, born 1879 in the St. Andrew's district of Edinburgh.

iii.  Alexandra Ada MURRAY, born 1882 in the St. Andrew's district of Edinburgh.

iv.  James Ainslie MURRAY, who was born 21 July 1884 in Edinburgh.  James attended the Edinburgh Academy from 1900 to 1902, winning the Academy's Balfour Music Prize in 1902.  James was employed as a Stockbroker and lived near his parents at 8 Royal Terrace in Edinburgh.  James married Mabel Victoria RUSH in 1921 in Edinburgh.  Mabel was born about 26 March 1897 at Merchiston Lodge on Colinton Road, Edinburgh.  She was the daughter of Henry Mortimer RUSH and Mabel Vivian SPROTT.  J. Ainslie MURRAY and his wife Mable moved to London where they lived at 20 Princes Square in the Bayswater District.  J. Ainslie MURRAY was notable as a conductor of light orchestras and he also made arrangements for them.  As a classical composer, J. Ainslie MURRAY is remembered for his composition PHILINA.
