Bendigo

James Alexander Murray Butcher

James Alexander MURRAY was born on 29 March 1879 in Sale, Victoria, Australia.  He was a son of Alexander MURRAY and Maria Elizabeth DURLEY.  As a young man, James Alexander MURRAY found employment as a miner.  On 19 July 1905, James married Mary Elizabeth GRAY in the Eaglehawk District of the City of Bendigo, Victoria.  Mary Elizabeth was born on 7 May 1879 in the Marong of Bendigo.  She was a daughter of John GRAY, a farmer, and his wife Christina MCDONALD.

By 1914, James Alexander MURRAY had left the mining industry and became a Butcher.  He and Mary Elizabeth raised a family while living in the City of Bendigo. 

In 1942, James and Mary Elizabeth were living at 27 Booth Street in the Golden Square District of Bendigo and James was working as a driver.  James Alexander MURRAY died on 2 May 1948 in Bendigo.  Mary Elizabeth Gray MURRAY died on 29 April 1955 at Geelong Hospital in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.

James Alexander and Mary Elizabeth MURRAY are buried in the Bendigo Cemetery.

Children of James Alexander MURRAY and Mary Elizabeth GRAY:

i.  Violet Jean MURRAY, who was born on 5 April 1906 in Bendigo.  On 21 April 1925, Violet married Ian Douglas MCDONALD in the Eaglehawk District of Bendigo.  Ian MCDONALD was born on 24 May 1898 in Horsham, Victoria, Australia and was a son of Alexander John MCDONALD, a farmer, and his wife Jessie Sheridan MCDONALD.  Ian worked as a Civil Engineer and a City Surveyor.  Violet and Ian MCDONALD lived in Geelong, Victoria and had one daughter.  Ian Douglas MCDONALD died on 6 March 1963 in Heidelberg, Victoria.  Violet Murray MCDONALD died on 7 July 1994.  Violet and Ian MCDONALD are buried in the Geelong Eastern Cemetery in Geelong.

ii.  Donald James MURRAY, who was born on 10 June 1910 in Marong.  On 11 May 1946, Donald married Doris BOOTH in Bendigo.  Doris was born on 31 January 1915 in Geelong.  Donald and Doris lived in Bendigo where Donald worked as a Grocer and Doris was a Hairdresser.  Donald and Doris had three children.  Donald James MURRAY died on 28 March 1982 in Bendigo.  Doris Booth MURRAY died on 15 June 2003.  Donald and Doris are buried in the Kangaroo Flat Cemetery in Bendigo.

iii.  Keith Angus MURRAY, who was born on 11 January 1917 in Marong.  Keith was a Hotel Keeper in the Kangaroo Flat area of Bendigo.  Keith Angus MURRAY died on 21 July 1994 in Melbourne, Australia.
