Bield Cottage

David Porteous Murray

David Porteous MURRAY was born on 01 March 1861 at the Mitchell Hill farm in the Kilbucho Parish of Peeblesshire.  He was a son of Alexander and Isabella MURRAY.  On 18 December 1885, David married Isabella Grieve POTTS in Peebles.  She was born on 19 January 1862 at Burrance Hill in the Kirkmichael Parish of Dumfriesshire and was the daughter of William POTTS and Helen BLACKLOCK.  David and Isabella MURRAY lived and raised a family at the Bield Cottage (see photo at right).  The Bield Cottage is located on the north side of the A701 in the village of Tweedsmuir.

David Porteous MURRAY (see photo at left) was for many years a Foreman for the Road Surface Crew in the Tweedsmuir area.  David was 78 years old when he died at the Bield Cottage on 1 January 1940.  Isabella Grieve Potts MURRAY then moved to Cross Street in Peebles and died on 16 November 1948 in Kingsland Hospital in Peebles.


Children of David MURRAY and Isabella Grieve POTTS:

i.  Alexander MURRAY, who was born on 04 September 1886 at Crookhaugh in Tweedsmuir.

ii.  William Potts MURRAY, who was born on 17 March 1888 at Crookhaugh (shown at right).  William married Annie Maria WATT on 12 March 1913 at the Station Cottage in the Fyvie Parish in Aberdeenshire.  In the late 1940's, William was living at 6 Glenogle Place in Edinburgh.

iii.  David MURRAY, who was born on 09 February 1890 at Bield Cottage in Tweedsmuir.

iv.  Thomas James MURRAY, who was born on 26 November 1894 at Bield Cottage.
