Adam Lamb Murray Coal Miner
Adam Lamb MURRAY was born on 3 September 1875 in Cardrona Mains in the Traquair Parish of Peeblesshire. He was a son of Alexander MURRAY and Agnes LAMB. On 13 December 1898, Adam married Margaret Sharp GILCHRIST at West Benhar in the Shotts Parish of Lanarkshire. Margaret was born on 31 March 1876 in Crosshill in the Parish of Kirkmichael, Ayrshire. She was a daughter of John GILCHRIST and his wife Anne Boyd SHARP.
Adam MURRAY began working in the coal mines in the Shotts District when he was only 15 years of age. He and Margaret raised a family while living in the West Benhar District of the Shotts Parish of Lanarkshire. Tragically on 08 June 1933, Margaret Gilchrist MURRAY drowned in the Union Canal in Broxburn, West Lothian. Adam Lamb MURRAY died on 07 April 1958 at 33 Church Street in Eastfield, Lanarkshire.
i. Alexander MURRAY, who was born on 10 September 1899, in West Benhar in the Shotts Parish. Alexander married Elizabeth YOUNG on 06 July 1923 in the Neilston Parish of Renfrewshire. Alexander died in March of 1963 in the Neilston Parish.
ii. John Gilchrist MURRAY, who was born on 31 July 1901 in West Benhar. John died in 1997 in Glasgow.
iii. Thomas MURRAY, who was born on 26 August 1903 in West Benhar. Thomas worked as a coal miner for his entire life. He lost a leg in a coal mine pit accident. Thomas died in 1993 in Eastfield.
iv. Ann Sharp MURRAY, who was born on 05 March 1908 in West Benhar. Ann died in 1993 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire.
v. Agnes Lamb MURRAY, who was born in 1910 in the Shotts Parish. Agnes died in 1997 in Kilmarnock.
vi. James Gilchrist MURRAY, who was born in 1912 in the Shotts Parish. In 1958, James was living at 3 Gibbshall Place, in Harthill. James died in 1998 in Whitburn.
vii. Robert Gilchrist MURRAY, who was born in 1917 in the Shotts Parish. Robert died in 1995 in Bathgate, West Lothian.
